More bugs and dinos, somehow the two are a great combination. Lots of research went into this scene. A juvenile Atrociraptor marshalli is out hunting for an early morning snack--a bumbling rhinoceros beetle. I based the body of the dino on other small dromaeosaurs and a partial skull recovered from a canyon near Drumheller, Alberta CANADA. This scene takes place about 70 myBP in the inland dune areas between the interior seaway and the rocky mountains. The atrociraptor youth lives in a region roughly between the Alberta towns of Banff and Seebe. The dunes are dominated by ancestors of Yucca glauca, whose tuberous roots are a delicacy for the hungry grubs of rhino beetles. I struggled with the running stance of the dinosaur. I even had the tail in a position where the animal would have tipped over. I moved the tail to the right as a counterweight to stabilize the animal’s center of mass. This project was a fun experiment using many of the filters in Photoshop.
cheers,

His stout raptor claws are not very useful against armoured beetles. Luckily he can run pretty fast.
Thanks for the kind words,
