Survival of the Cuddliest, Smilodon fatalis family by Psithyrus Survival of the Cuddliest, Smilodon fatalis family by Psithyrus
Wooo, this is perhaps the most detail I have ever rendered in a picture. It's a sequel to my first smilodon picture "survival of the cuddliest". A mother Smilodon fatalis is helping groom her cub, just to be sure he cleans behind his ears. I hope you like this cute arctic saber tooth cat family.

Thanks,

Blair

This is amazing!
You have hade a little... no a big error though. Smilodon did not have the flanges on the bottom mandible like e.g. Thylacosmilus (marsupial sabertooth), Megantereon (M) , Barbourofelis (Barbourofelid, Previously it was classified as a Nimravid) , Pogonodon(N), Eusmilus(N), Dinictis(N), Hoplophoneus(N) or any other Machairodont/Nimravid. (they were mostly seen in Nimravids)

Next time look closely to the bottom mandibles when drawing sabertoothed cats because each species was different in some way.
When I looked at the drawing for the first time without reading the title I thought you drew a family of Barbourofelis fricki. This is how they looked like: long sabre teeth protected my the long flanges growing out of their bottom mandibles, just like you drew the mother.

Other than that this painting is AMAZING! I love the detail alot! The fur is so realistic and the cubs are purely adorable! I am looking forward to seeing more artwork like this! :D

Wow, thanks for the great info. I always found it funny that Smilodons having there canines dip so far below their chins, so I like to give them a beard so-to-speak, like Diego in the ice age movies.

Thanks again for all of the information.

all the best, :)
